Cromwell alumni banquet

The 86th Cromwell High School alumni banquet was held May 27 at Supertel Inn and Conference Center in Creston.

President Connie Kinkade welcomed the 61 alumni, spouses and guests in attendance. Invocation was given by Kinkade.

After a meal catered by The Windrow, Kinkade conducted the business meeting. Other 2017 officers were Dave Rhine, vice president and treasurer, and Mary Mullin Brunner, secretary. Volunteers assisting with the banquet included Jerrie Eivins Henderson and Gerald Sticken.

Deaths reported since the 2016 banquet included: Thelma Thomas Sammons, class of 1939; Clinton Claiser, class of 1942; Regina McManus Yount, class of 1944; Lorraine Hess Brown, class of 1945; Dean Johnson, class of 1954; Shirley Mickey Johannes, class of 1956; Dale Sherer, class of 1957; Gail Frus, class of 1958; Martin Shawler, class of 1959; Janet Franklin Lanik, class of 1961; and Charles Kiesling, class of 1963.

Those attending from honored classes were:

Class of 1942: Leone Sammons Purdum. Purdum was the oldest graduate in attendance. Brunner presented her with a potted plant.

Class of 1947: Merrill Frus.

Class of 1952: Merrill Eggman, Ruth Foster Daggett and Don Sticken.

Class of 1957: Joan Bonus Chubick and Shirley Dix Davenport.

Class of 1962: Larry Bennett, Mary Davis Meaney, Duane Foster, David Mullin and Connie Kinkade.

No one was present from the class of 1937.

The secretary’s report, prepared by Brunner, was read by Tammy Rhine. The report was approved as read. The treasurer’s report was read by Dave Rhine. A motion to approve the report was made by Betty Kralik Abel, seconded by Kenny Foster.

With no nominations for 2018 officers, the 2017 officers will be held over for the 2018 banquet.

After a discussion about banquet locations, alumni approved holding the banquet at the current location with earlier hours.

The meeting was concluded with the drawing of door prizes conducted by David Rhine and Gerald Sticken.

A John Deere 4020 tractor donated by Todd Barker of AgriVision in Creston was won by Mary Abel Bryant, class of 1948.

A McCormick ZTX tractor donated by David Davis of Titan Machinery in Greenfield was won by Jack McFarland, class of 1956.

The 2018 banquet will be May 26 at Supertel Inn and Conference Center in Creston with 5 p.m. social hour and 6 p.m. dinner. Honored classes will be 1943, 1948, 1953, 1958 and 1963.
