Area Roundup: O-M softball, Mount Ayr baseball break out the bats

East Union 7

ORIENT — Kaela Eslinger hit a game-tying and game-winning home run to complement her 10 strikeouts in the circle in a 9-7 Orient-Macksburg win over East Union on Tuesday.

Eslinger scored three runs and drove in seven of the Bulldogs’ runs in the victory, which included a second-inning grand slam and a three-run homer.

Brooklyn Sammons and Cameo Walker each had an RBI.

Long, Walker, Haylee Gardner, Cortney Gross, Pheonix White and Ashlyn Kralik each had one hit.

Lenox 6, Sidney 5

SIDNEY — The Lenox baseball team fended off Sidney in grabbing a 6-5 road victory on Tuesday.

Colton Hogan contributed three RBIs to the Tiger cause and had one hit.

Brenden Christensen walked three times and scored two runs, and Colton Gordon added two more runs.

Drew Venteicher had a hit and drove in two runs.

Christensen worked three innings and picked up the win in relief of Aaron Schmitz. Christensen struck out three and walked two while allowing just a run. Schmitz struck out five in three innings of work.

Mount Ayr 21,

East Mills 11

MOUNT AYR — Runs galore was the story in Mount Ayr’s season-opening 21-11 home win over East Mills on Tuesday.

Tristan Holmes blasted his way to six RBIs on three hits, including two home runs. He also scored three times.

Zach Murphy added a home run of his own, scored three runs, posted three hits and four RBIs.

Erik Masoner, Isaac Grose and Kolben Klommhaus added two hits apiece, while Masoner and Grose combined for five runs scored.

Keelan Klommhaus picked up the win in 3 2/3 innings of work. He struck out seven, walked five and surrendered five runs.
