Running on Tradition 5K to benefit Union County Fairgrounds building project

Youth in Union County are taking an active role in helping the fundraising efforts of the Union County Fairgrounds Building Project, “Building on Tradition.” A 5K run, benefiting the project will be held 4 p.m. June 10 with registration beginning at 2:30 p.m.

The 5K run will start in the Afton square, go through the fairgrounds and end back up in the square. While running through the fairgrounds, participants will compete in a variety of obstacles, including mud, to challenge themselves. A 4-H Club and FFA Chapter competition will also take place, therefore everyone will have the opportunity to support their favorite club or chapter. Weaver Meats of Afton will sponsor a meal for the runners afterwards, as well as Southwest Distributing Company will provide a free beer for every runner. All pre-registered runners will receive a towel at the registration of the race.

To register, go to www.getmeregistered.com/runningontradition. Online applications received after May 24 are not guaranteed a towel and meal. Mail in applications are available throughout town, within the extension office, in schools and banks, and can be sent to Macy Evans, Union County Fair Association, 1954 Hi and Dry Road, Creston IA 50801.
