CEDAR RAPIDS (AP) — A judge has rejected an inmate’s request to order new DNA testing in the 2000 slaying of a Cedar Rapids woman, a crime he insists he didn’t commit.
Judge Andrew Chappell declined Carloss Robinson’s request for testing on items found in the apartment where Christina Sanoubane was found dead.
Robinson has admitted having sex with his neighbor but denied killing her. A second person’s DNA was also found inside the 20-year-old. Robinson argued that testing of items that remain in storage could exclude him or identify the true killer.
But Chappell says an Iowa law allowing defendants to seek DNA analysis doesn’t apply because Robinson had his DNA tested and used against him at trial.
He says he’s not convinced any findings would “negate the evidence” that convinced jurors to convict Robinson, noting the victim’s blood was found on his t-shirt.
