5 minutes with Cassie Berry, new mother

AGE: 26

HOMETOWN: Creston

FAMILY: Husband, Austin; son, Bryson Shon.

HOW OLD IS BRYSON? He’s 2 months.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT BEING A MOTHER? I like the constant need of something. I like taking care of things. He just looks at you and you kind of melt because you want to do things for him. I love the constant companionship.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST CHALLENGING PART OF BEING A MOTHER? I just went back to work, so trying to figure out work life, picking him up in time and having time with Austin, because it doesn’t really happen. Trying to figure out a schedule and stick to what you’re doing.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST ADJUSTMENT FOR YOU? Sleep schedule because now I get up earlier. So trying to figure that out and getting to work on time.

WHO IS BETTER AT CHANGING DIAPERS? Me, because I don’t get peed on or pooped on. Austin is pretty good at getting pooped on. He somehow got him to poop all over the wall.

WHAT IS THE MOST COMMON REACTION YOU GET FROM PEOPLE IN PUBLIC? He’s so cute. He looks just like his dad. A majority of people say he looks just like his dad.

DOES IT SCARE YOU HE COULD END UP BEING A MINIATURE AUSTIN? Yes. That scares me every day. He just tells me, “I hope he’s right handed, because if he’s left handed, that’s just going to cost us more money buying guns and stuff.”

HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE NAME BRYSON? I found it in a book and I threw it out there a couple weeks before we had him. He was like, “It’s OK.” And that was the closest to a “yes” I got from him.

WHAT WILL THIS FIRST MOTHER’S DAY MEAN TO YOU? It will be special because he’s so little. It will probably be more fun next year because he’ll interact with me more.
