Jack Wendell Rusk, 91, of Afton died Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Afton Care Center.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton at a later date. Open visitation with family present will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., in Afton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Jack's name. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Jack W. Rusk, son of True and Tillie (Hawkins) Rusk, was born July 17, 1925, at home in Afton. Graduating in 1943 from Afton High School, Jack attended all of his school years in Afton.

Jack held a variety of jobs after high school including working at the ammunition plant in Ankeny and as a brakeman for Burlington Northern Railroad. In 1944-45, True rented the lot that is now the current Casey’s in Afton. Jack, True and Jack’s brother, Tom, ran Rusk Oil Company from that location until 1986 when Jack retired.

On March 21, 1948, Jack married Carol Fleming in Greenfield.

Jack was a member of the coffee club in Afton and Lakeshore Golf and Country Club.

Jack is survived by his daughter-in-law Sue Rusk of Afton; grandchildren, Jessica (Andy) Zaugg of Ankeny and Robb Rusk of Woodland, California; and great-grandchildren, Taylor, Lauren and Ethan Zaugg of Ankeny.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; wife, Carol in 2008 and son, Richard Lynn in 2014.
