Chilly but fun night at ACS

CORNING – Saturday’s chilly temperatures promised for lots of horsepower but a need for hot chocolate as the racers took to the track. Ramsey Grinding Night went off with lots of great racing and some mishaps, as well. Drivers battled it out to the best of their ability with trophies and Ramsey Grinding hats and goodies up for grabs.

O’Reilly Auto Parts Late Models shook the half-mile with 20 cars taking to the field and brining fans to their feet. Jason O’Brien brought back memories of a few years ago when he ran the high side and didn’t let off. O’Brien didn’t look back while holding off Leon Zeitner (second), Corey Zeitner (third) and Cory Dumpert (fourth) racing hard with Bill Leighton (fifth) trying to crack the top three.

POET Biorefining Modifieds put on a great show with some of the best in the business trying to run down a checkered, and a new kid making animpression. Jesse Dennis (first) and Nick Roberts (second) started front row and kept it that way for the finish. Roberts appeared to be running Dennis down until Dennis found his groove and started to pull away. Justin Zeitner (third )tried for the repeat as he was holding off the new modified driver Jake Hobscheidt (fourth). Todd Van Eaton (fifth) made sure no one forgot about the mafia knocking on the back door as he finished with fellow mafia member Jeff James (sixth), respectively.

Northland Oil Stock Cars left some tire rubs as the field raced hard Saturday night. Jesse Lund started on the front row and held off all contenders until a late caution gave the upper had to some fellow competitors. Jason Rold (first) was able to hammer down to the front row and be the only winner from the night that didn’t start front row, with the likes of Chris Pruitt (second) right with him hoping for his first 2017 victory at ACS as well. Lund (third) was able to stay in the top three while making sure that Tony Hardisty (fourth) and Buck Schafroth (fifth) couldn’t get around the fast 14.

Stalker Chevrolet B-mods got to see Kody Havens (first) claim his first win at ACS this season, as he started on the pole and made sure his nose crossed the finish line the same way. Josh Sink (second) and Jerod Weston (third) had a showdown to prove who the fastest in Montgomery County was. Jerry Hinton (fourth) put his hot rod in the mix with David Schwartz (fifth) right behind.

Chat Mobility Hobby Stocks proved to be one of the best shows off the night, involving another Lund. As Jesse made a run in his stock car, brother Jerid Lund seemed to show him how it was done as he got his firs tvictory in the new Lightning McQueen machine. Jerid (first) took his young fan favorite to Miller Lite Victory Lane with a big smile on his face.

Jerid wasn’t handed anything on a platter, as he had to hold off some of the greatest in the business with Jason “Fuzzy” Fusselman (second) scratching at Jerid’s back bumper and “Cool Hand” Luke Ramsey (third) rubbing Fusselman as he tried for second. Tom Myers (fouth) and Kiel Brittain (fifth) did everything they could to step into the top three with a great field of drivers.

Tri-State Ford Compacts was set to have one of the biggest nights they had seen with 17 cars signing in. As the night began, Logan Richards unveiled his new No. 69R Deadpool-themed Cobalt, but saw an early end to his evening as the car rolled off turn one in the heat. Richards walked away from the incident sore but all right.

Dustin Thompson (first) made sure he was not an exception, as he took home a victory from starting the front row, as well. Bobby Key (second) made a charge for Thompson, but had to try and hold off first-time driver Buddy Haidsiak, who had a solid finish in third. Evan Hrabik was hoping for two in a row as he settled in fourth with an impressive field of drivers, and Jake Dixon (fifth) pushing for a top-four finish right behind him.
