Shirley Johannes, 78, of Creston died Friday, April 21, 2017, at Creston Specialty Care in Creston.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 28, at the Kingdom Hall in Creston. The Rev. Larry Anderson will lead the ceremony. Family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall. A light luncheon will be served. Inurnment will follow at 2 p.m. in Grove Cemetery in Taylor County. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kingdom Hall of Creston. Online condolences may be left at www.pearsonfuneralhomes.com. Shirley's family is in charge of the arrangements.

Shirley Louise Johannes, daughter of Howard Walter Mickey and Edith Mae (Walton) Mickey, was born May 2, 1938, in Des Moines. She lived in Taylor and Union County most of her life. Shirley attended Kent Elementary School and graduated from Cromwell High School with the class of 1956.

On Oct. 3, 1957, Shirley married Boyd Junior Johannes in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where they resided for a time before moving back to Iowa. She worked a short time in Bedford and worked in Lenox for Sheridan Egg Company and Papetti’s for several years. Shirley stayed home following the birth of her daughters working as a homemaker. She was a Jehovah’s Witness and attended the Kingdom Hall in Creston and Bedford.

Shirley is survived by her daughters, Vickie Nelson (Jerry) of Corning, Teresa Johannes of Bluffton, Indiana, April Kavanaugh (Frank) of Bakersfield, California, and Crystal Means (Jarid) of Conway, Arkansas; grandchildren, Rachel Gray and Leeman Nelson, Mariah Johannes and Brendan Sille, Elizabeth, Hannah and Rebekah Vermeulen, Tristan Kinnaird, Kylar Ranney, Gracie Kavanaugh and Alyssa Means; great-grandchildren, Corbin and Brylee; sisters, Patty Brammer of Creston and Linda Bolinger (Doc) of Lenox; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd in 1988; daughter, Debbie Jones in 1992; parents and brother-in-law Henry “Sonny” Brammer.
