William Harpin

Creston

William Harpin, 91, of Creston died Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston. The Rev. Tony Thurston will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines at a later date. Open visitation with family present will be one hour prior to the service Saturday. Memorials can be given to St. Jude's Hospital or Shriner's Hospital. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

William L. Harpin, son of Noah Lloyd Harpin and Mahaley Arminda (Hall) Harpin, was born June 2, 1925, in Creston. William was educated in Creston and graduated from Creston High School.

On Aug. 3, 1947, Bill married Eileen Harpin at United Methodist Church in Creston. He was a lifelong resident of the Creston area where he was a farmer, member of the railroad bridge gang, clerk at a liquor store and Puralator paper cutter. He most recently worked in maintenance and housekeeping at Greater Regional Hospital in Creston.

Bill was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ and Odd Fellows as a 50-year member. He also served on Grove Chapel Cemetery Board.

William is survived by his wife Eileen; sons, Michael Harpin of Warner, Oklahoma, David (Mari) Harpin of Austin, Texas, and Noah (Laura) Harpin of Urbandale; daughters, Bonita (James) Shaha of Beeville, Texas, and SuEllen Hartman (James Ramsey) of Belton, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and sisters, Betty Bernard of Victoria, Texas, and Minnie Belle Martin of Mesa, Arizona.

William was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frank, Lawrence, Jerry, Ray and Earl and sisters, Helen and Margaret.
