According to an Adair County Sheriff report, officers conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 80 on a white Buick LeSabre with Colorado license plates for traveling at an excessive speed. Upon officers’ approach to the passenger side of the vehicle, officers smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Officers asked the driver to exit the vehicle and go back to the patrol vehicle.

Officers explained to the driver they could smell the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver said there were no illegal substances in the vehicle. Officers advised the driver to be honest. The driver then said there were approximately two grams of marijuana underneath the center console. Officers advised the driver she was being detained at that time.

Officers made another approach on the passenger side of the vehicle. Officers advised the passenger, Bucklin, to exit the vehicle. Officers told Bucklin the driver had admitted there was marijuana in the vehicle. Bucklin said there was and grabbed a bag filled with a green leafy substance from underneath the passenger seat. Officers asked Bucklin who the marijuana belonged to and he said it was his. Bucklin was advised he was being detained at that time.

Officers performed a search of the vehicle and found a box used for storing marijuana and a one-hitter pipe. All paraphernalia was located under the passenger seat where Bucklin was sitting. No other controlled substances or paraphernalia were located in the vehicle. The driver, Shelby Beranek, was issued a warning for speed and released. Bucklin was charged.
