No citations were issued after an accident 2:59 p.m. March 2 at McDonald’s, 608 Wyoming Ave.

According to a Creston Police report, Thomas William Scheffler, 55, of Harlan, driving a 2008 Ford, was backing from a parked position and struck a 2013 Chevrolet driven behind him by Melissa Dawn Zellmer, 36, of Creston. Scheffler was clearly at fault for the accident. Scheffler admitted fault and was given a verbal warning for failing to yield while backing from a parked position.

Damage estimates are $100 to Scheffler’s vehicle and $1,200 to Zellmer’s vehicle.

No citations were issued after an accident 11:30 p.m. March 24 at Greater Regional Medical Center, 1700 W. Townline St.

According to a Creston Police report, Alen J. Weese, 65, of Orient, driving a 2006 Chevrolet, was backing out of a parking space, hit the gas and backed around the parking lot. Weese hit a legally parked 2000 Ford, continued in the same direction and hit a legally parked 2014 Jeep, legally parked 1998 Oldsmobile and the Greater Regional Medical Center building near the emergency department.

A blood test was done on Weese, which resulted in him being under the influence of drugs or medication. He was transported by ground EMS to Greater Regional, where his condition is currently unknown.

Damage estimates are $7,000 to Weese’s vehicle, $5,000 to the parked Ford, $9,000 to the parked Jeep, $500 to the parked Oldsmobile and $2,000 to the glass window in the ER door at Greater Regional.

No citations were issued after an accident 2:40 p.m. March 28 on Iris Avenue.

According to a Union County Sheriff report, Issac Jade Davis, 16, of Creston, driving a 2005 Buick north on Iris Avenue, lost control, went into the west ditch and struck a utility pole and fence.

Damage estimates are $3,500 to Davis’ vehicle, $300 to the fence owned by Art Lischer of Des Moines and $1,000 to the utility pole owned by Farmers Electric Cooperative of Greenfield.

No citations were issued after an accident March 29 at the intersection of West Lucas Street and New York Avenue.

According to a Creston Police report, Matthew Deane Thompson, 26, of Creston, driving a 1989 Chevrolet south on New York Avenue, had the axle of the vehicle break and the rear driver’s side tire break loose with two feet of axle, which then traveled past Thompson’s vehicle down the street and off the road, where it struck a legally parked 2003 Chevrolet.

Damage estimates are $700 to Thompson’s vehicle and $500 to the parked Chevrolet.

No citations were issued after an accident 1:59 a.m. April 5 on Old Highway 34.

According to a Union County Sheriff report, Larry Cleve Clayton, 70, of Thayer, driving a 2006 Jeep with one-axle small utility trailer, was confused and drove into a building, owned by Dave Lee Larson of Afton and located at 1780 Old Highway 34 in Afton.

Clayton was transported by law enforcement to Greater Regional Medical Center, where his condition is currently unknown.

Damage estimates are $5,500 to Clayton’s vehicle and $10,000 to Larson’s building.

No citations were issued after an accident 6:58 p.m. April 6 at the intersection of North Sycamore and West Howard streets.

According to a Creston Police report, Matthew Owen Neipert, 37, of Creston, driving a 2003 Chevrolet south on North Sycamore Street, approached the intersection at North Sycamore and West Howard streets, began turning west onto West Howard Street, was blinded by the sun, turned too wide and hit a 2001 Dodge driven by Michael Allen Henry, 68, of Creston, who was stopped at the stop sign at the same intersection.

Damage estimates are $800 to Neipert’s vehicle and $800 to Henry’s vehicle.

No citations were issued after an accident 11:26 a.m. April 7 on North Poplar Street.

According to a Creston Police report, a 1993 Nissan was parked facing north in an alley near North Poplar Street, slipped out of gear and hit a garage, owned by Terry Lee Sprauge, at 604 N. Poplar St.

Damage estimates are $50 to the Nissan and $800 to Sprauge’s garage.

Logan Robert Debord, 21, of Creston was cited for failure to maintain control and driving while license suspended after an accident 2 a.m. April 8 on New York Avenue.

According to a Creston Police report, Debord, driving a 2008 Dodge south on New York Avenue, struck a 2014 Chevrolet legally parked on New York Avenue and fled the scene. The Chevrolet was later located and the owner was identified.

Damage estimates are $1,500 to Debord’s vehicle and $2,000 to the Chevrolet.

No citations were issued after an accident 3:20 p.m. Wednesday in Afton.

According to a Union County Sheriff report, Larry Lee Schlapia, 80, of Creston, driving a 2006 Mercury on Highway 169, was pulling up to a stop sign at the intersection of highways 169 and 34 behind a 2001 John Deere tractor driven Larry Dean Brown, 68, of Afton with a John Deere planter attached, Schlapia misjudged the distance between his vehicle and the planter and ran into Brown’s planter. Schlapia had just left a doctor’s appointment and his vision was not back to normal yet.

Damage estimates are $2,500 to Schlapia’s vehicle and $600 to Brown’s planter.
