Ladies Literary Circle
Ladies Literary Circle met at the home of Connie Rhine with 22 members present. President Vanita Moberg conducted the business meeting which included roll call, minutes and treasurer’s report. The annual spring luncheon was discussed and it was decided to invite the other book clubs in Creston to attend the program. The speaker will be Iowa author D. Nichole King of Osceola. The program will begin at 1 p.m. May 5 at Crestmoor Country Club.
The slate of officers for next year were approved and are Judith Wachter, president; Stephanie Finley, vice president; Bailey Poolman, secretary; Vera Fengler, treasurer; and Dora Coen, historian.
The hostess served a choice of two luscious cakes plus chocolates and beverages.
The next meeting will be April 16 at the home of Connie Purdum.

Kiwanis
The weekly Kiwanis meeting was held 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, in the Windrow meeting room with 24 members and two guests. President Chris Eaton presided, Terry Freeman gave the prayer and Ellen Gerharz was the finemaster.
The program was given by Mary Jo Borcherding and Rhonda Katzer, fundraisers with the Greater Regional Hospice Home run by HCI Hospice. They discussed the upcoming fundraiser, Bucket Bash 2017, which will be held April 20 at The Lobby. The fundraiser will raise funds to provide bucket list items for patients and their families that are at the hospice home.

P.E.O.
Chapter LG P.E.O. met April 4 at the home of Jennifer Hoyt with Alice Bowers assisting as co-hostess. After a delicious lunch, 15 members responded to roll call.
Rosalie Denton, treasurer, reported for month of April. There were no bills. A sign-up sheet was presented for members who will participate in the trunk sale that Chapter AZ has planned for Saturday, May 6. The group listed the items they will provide for the bake sale and other trinkets or treasures to sell.
It was noted that a check needs to be issued before Susan Weight goes to the P.E.O. State Convention in June. The budget allows $25 to represent our chapter with a love gift offering for the state president.
Marcia Riley formally thanked all the sisters for all their assistance which everyone so willingly provided to make her two-year term as chapter president so successful, as well as rewarding to her personally.
Terry Ammon reminded members of the opportunity to experience a week in May as a coed at Cottey College.
Nancy James presented the program on Habitat for Humanity of Union County. It is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian ministry that works to provide decent, safe, affordable housing for people who need it in Union County. It was very informative regarding the many aspects involved in this humanitarian effort that helps to make homes affordable to a wide range of people.
Our next regular meeting will be 9:30 a.m. April 18 at the home of James with Carolyn Downing assisting as co-hostess.

Catholic Daughters
Court Joan of Arc No. 428 met March 14 in the church hall following Mass. Dinner was served by the committee of Carolyn Downing, chairman, Retta Ripperger, Joanne Gibson and Pat Cain.
The meeting was called to order by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and a Lenten prayer. Twenty-one members and one guest, Karon Finn, were present. Alice gave the treasurer’s report. Marsha Mohr made the motion to approve the report. Betty Baker seconded. Motion carried. Carol read the minutes of the last meeting. Teresa Weis made the motion to accept and Lois Nelson seconded the motion to approve the minutes. Motion carried. Betty reported she had sent two cards. We have received several thank-yous for the cookies.
Pat Pokorny reported the Rectory ReRun has donated maternity clothes and other items to the LC Clinic. Also, the pro-life march was scheduled for March 30 in Des Moines.
Retta reminded the group they need to register for the state convention by April 5 unless they want to pay an extra $20. She is also looking for volunteers to make a display for the convention showcasing the groups accomplishments over the last two years. Virginia gave the CDA report Feb. 21 to the parish council.
Bunn-O-Matic bake sales are scheduled March 17 at Afton and the retail on Lucas Street and March 24 at the parts building on Commerce Street. Anita Studer, Jane Collins and Joanne Gibson have been appointed to the financial review committee.
Susie McCall and Alice Reed gave the program on their Houma Indian mission trip.
Kay reminded us that dues are due in April. Teresa and Kay won door prizes.
Everyone recited the membership prayer to close the meeting. Meeting adjourned.

Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary
Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary met April 12.
Canasta winners were Gwen Sandeman, first; Janet Kessler, second; and Maxine May, third.
May won the door prize.
Kessler will host cards and chatter Wednesday, April 19.
