Kiwanis
The weekly Kiwanis meeting was held 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, at the Windrow meeting room with 20 members and one guest. President-elect Korina Loudon presided, Jim Morris gave the prayer and Sam Beaty was the finemaster.
The program was the Rev. Chuck Spindler with Crest Baptist Church. He discussed the baccalaureate service that will be held for graduating Creston Community High School seniors May 17 at the school. This is the fourth year for the ceremony.
The annual pancake day for Kiwanis was March 14. Attendance for the fundraiser was up this year and many good comments were heard. The event is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the club.

GRMC Auxiliary Board
The monthly meeting of the GRMC Auxiliary Board was held March 23 with Carolyn, Ann, Bev, Joan, Lois, Nancy, Tammy, Sandy, Jordan, Jessica and Rhonda in attendance.
Amy Rieck gave the administrator’s report. New employee orientation is held once a month. During the last orientation, new volunteers were also included. The sessions include hospital policies, procedures, disaster training and planning. The volunteers found it helpful to be included. Rieck reported that GRMC Ambassadors are a busy group having planned and executed the GRMC prom. They are also planning an Easter party for employees and their families, plus are scheduling activities to celebrate National Hospital Week the first week of May. GRMC now has a staff of 392 employees, of which 24 are new hires. A future employee who has signed on is a medical student who will become available in 2020.
Minutes of the February meeting were approved as were the financial reports Jordan, Nancy and Matt McCutchan’s names will be on the bank account. The money on the credit card will be transferred to a new card that will not bear Jessica’s name.
Other business included the jewelry sale on March 16, linen sale on May 3, golf event on June 2, safe sitter in July, membership drive with Sandy and Marcia to set during lunch time, summer conference is still in the works and scholarships deadline is April 15 and to be reviewed by April 22.
Next meeting will be April 10.

GRMC Auxiliary Gift Shop
Nancy, Joan, Lois, Jordan, Jessica and Rhonda met March 13 in the MAP Conference Room. Financial reports were found to be in good standing. Jordan and Nancy’s names have been added to the account.
General health of the gift shop was deemed very good. The meeting with CB&K went well. Bonnie of K&K will be here April 10 to show and take orders for new merchandise.
Next meeting will be April 10.

VFW Post 1797
VFW Post 1797 met March 14 at the Elks in Creston. Twenty-one members and guests were present for dinner.
Commander Gary O’Daniels called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. with 19 members present.
Minutes and QM reports were read and approved.
Service officers reported 26 hours for community service, 31 hours for hospital, 14 hours at the bloodmobile and two hours with Scouts, for a total of 73 hours. The group also traveled 365 miles for veterans.
In old business, an update on Union County Honor Flight was discussed. The first call was made for new officers for years 2017-18.
In new business, contributions for Union County Honor Flight have reached $15,400. Thank you to all of the organizations and citizens for your support. Second call for officers included commander – O’Daniels, senior vice – Frank Riley, Jr., vice – Jim Flowers, quartermaster – Dennis Abel, surgeon – Craig Dresback, chaplain – Rick Leonard, judge advocate – Robert Jungst and trustees – Ron Jackson, John Parkins and Ron Gordon.
The next district meeting will be Saturday, April 29, in Ottumwa.
The meeting adjourned at 8 p.m. The next meeting will be Tuesday, April 11, at the Elks with dinner at 6 p.m. and meeting to follow at 7 p.m. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Creston United Methodist Women
The executive committee of Creston United Methodist Women met March 1 in Fellowship Hall. Co-president Susan Weight called the meeting to order at 1 p.m. There were six officers and the special events coordinator present.
The UMW Purpose was read together and joys and concerns were shared. Beth Perry led devotions by reading from Numbers 21:4-9, shared a “Lenten Reflection,” an article written by an overseas volunteer, and closed with a prayer.
Minutes of the January and February meetings were approved as written with a change in the name of the program for guest night. The treasurer’s report was presented and approved.
There will be an UMCOR work day March 15. A list of needs for the UMCOR kits is available and the youth will deliver them to Saeger Brown in Louisiana in July. A volunteer trip to Bidwell Riverside is scheduled for April 25. The UMW will conduct the worship services June 11. Several volunteers will present information on the projects we support. There will be a summer lunch program this year, but there will be no breakfasts served. The group discussed getting some new towels for the kitchen, but will do an inventory first. The invitational guest night is April 6.
There is a need for sandwiches, chips and bars for the April 9 Lenten service to be held in our church. This will be a whole church undertaking. Change the World weekend is April 27-30 and each circle is to do an act of kindness for someone. Registrars are needed at Wesley Woods for summer camp. Susan Weight attended a spiritual retreat in March. Meeting was adjourned.
The unit meeting was held next. Vice President Ann Driskell introduced Mary Morris who presented the program on “Climate Justice.” Following the evening circle, refreshments were served with a St. Patrick’s day theme.
Sandy McNichols presided at the unit business meeting. This meeting was called to order with everyone reciting the membership pledge. Joys and concerns were shared. Rosalie Denton read the minutes of the December unit meeting which were approved as read.
Roll call was answered by seven morning circle members, eight evening circle members and two guests, Morris and Sandy Oswald.
Business items at this meeting were the same as the executive meeting.
The meeting was adjourned with the reading of the March Bible verse from Philippians 4:4-5.
Morning circle met at 9:30 a.m. March 16 with 10 members present. Betty Davis was hostess and Velma Riegel presided. Perry had devotions from the March Response magazine on “Bright Hope for Tomorrow.” Perry also presented the program entitled “Called to Serve Communities Around the World.” The group discussed guest night and what more needed to be done for it. Riegel gave a book report on “Falling into Place.” The meeting was closed with the March Bible verse.
Evening circle met at 7 p.m. March 16 with five members present. Denton presided.

Kent Dinner Club
Kent Dinner Club would like to start again, but need interested participants to call Donna Scheel at 641-782-8848. If enough interest is shown, monthly meetings will be held at Pizza Ranch.

P.E.O.
Chapter LG P.E.O. met March 21 at the home of Sandy Harris with Kay Ritter assisting as co-hostess. Twelve members responded to roll call.
Annette Rice and Ritter reported on the annual P.E.O. omelet buffet held Tuesday, March 7, at Creston First United Methodist Church. It was announced P.E.O. had realized more than $4,000 that will be available to provide scholarships to deserving Creston High School seniors. Appreciation was expressed for all the support and hard work from all the members in both P.E.O. chapters, LG and AZ.
Peg Anderson read the president’s letter’ in the absence of Marcia Riley, that will be sent to Iowa State Chapter of P.E.O. Anderson conducted the installation of officers in a meaningful ceremony.

Denton gave an interesting account of her 12 day tour through midwestern national parks. She had pictures to enhance her description of the many areas the tour encompassed.
The next regular meeting will be held at the home of Jennifer Hoyt with Alice Bowers assisting as co-hostess. James will provide the program.

Alpha Delta Kappa
The Iowa Alpha Gamma chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa met March 13 at A&G Steakhouse. President Colleen Gangestad conducted the business meeting. She has completed revision of the by-laws. Gangestad reported that Lori Mann submitted the annual altruistic report to state. High school counselors have received ADK book scholarship applications. Students majoring in education are encouraged to apply.
Members enjoyed guessing “Famous First Lines in Literature” presented by Lois Houghtaling.
The April 10 meeting will be held in the home of Pam Dunham. Barb Hudson will provide a trunk quilt show.

Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary met March 29.
Canasta winners were Mary Kline, first; Joy Seley, second; and Penni Nauman, third.
Cheri Lilly won the door prize.
Maxine May will host cards and chatter Wednesday, April 5.

PEO Chapter AZ
The regular business meeting of P.E.O. Chapter AZ was held March 21 at Salem Lutheran Church with 20 members present.
Connie Maxson was initiated. The trunk sale will be from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 6.
Election and installation of officers for 2017 was held. They included president, Carol Brentnall; vice-president, Sandy Stalker; recording secretary, Linda Carroll; corresponding secretary, Nancy Loudon; treasurer, Connie Purdum; chaplain, Lela Burkhalter; guard, Christy Nielsen; delegate to state convention, Carol Brentnall and alternate to state convention, Connie Purdum.
Karla Hynes gave a program. Refreshments were served by hostess Jody Emerson and co-hostess Kay Raymond.
The next meeting will be April 4 at Carroll Chiropractic with Linda Carroll as hostess and Joan Chubick as co-hostess.
