Theresa Lovell, 81, of Urbandale, formerly of Creston, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Karen Acres Health Care Center in Urbandale.

Mass of Christian burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. Rev. Ken Halbur will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7:30 p.m. Friday with family receiving friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston. Memorials are suggested to the Oscar and Theresa Music Memorial Fund. Online condolences may be given at www.powersfh.com.

Theresa Anne (Ament) Lovell was born Sept. 15, 1935, to Jesse Claude and Eva Mary (Wilbur) Ament. She graduated from Creston High School with the class of 1953.

Theresa was united in marriage to Oscar Whitney Lovell on June 10, 1953, at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Creston. They resided in Creston where Theresa worked as a travel agent with Go Travel. In 1991, they moved to Winnemucca, Nevada, and Theresa continued her work as a travel agent. In 2006, they moved back to Iowa where Theresa and Oscar participated in four community bands in Des Moines. Theresa took most pride at being a homemaker, and spending valuable time with her kids and grandkids.

Theresa was a member at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Creston, St. Francis of Assisi in West Des Moines, Reiman’s New Horizon Band, Urbandale Community Band, Urbandale Swing Band, West Des Moines Community Band and a bowling league. Theresa was also active with Jaycees in Creston as well as a member of the Catholic Daughters in both Creston and Winnemucca.

Survivors include her daughter, Leslie (husband Ned) Tyler of Creston; two sons, Mick (wife Rhonda) Lovell of West Des Moines and Jon (wife Pam) Lovell of Urbandale; 10 grandchildren, Amanda (husband Dusty) Hicks, Jesse, Emily and Joe Lovell, Tucker and Abbie Whitaker, Tristan and Jaiden Lovell, Rachael Noah and Carson Clearwater; two great-grandchildren, Cooper and Trevor Hicks; brother Don (wife Nancy) Ament of New Braunfels, Texas; sisters-in-law, Judy Lovell of California and Pat (husband George) Kefferer of Lincoln, Nebraska, and brother-in-law Merlin Thorndyke of Peoria, Illinois.

Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, husband Oscar in January 2017 and infant son Tony Alan Lovell.
