Local youth to perform in national honor choir

Marie Mullin, eighth grader at Creston Community Schools, will sing in the National Junior High/Middle School Honor Choir, rehearsing and performing at the 2017 American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) National Conference held March 7-11 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

More than 4,200 singers from all over the United States submitted auditions in September for one of three honor choirs: children’s, middle school and high school. Students were notified of their selection and have been preparing their music since November. Marie’s choir will rehearse and perform under the direction of Lynnel Jenkins, director of the Princeton Girl choir and choral teacher at the Timberlane Middle School in Pennington, New Jersey. Marie is the daughter of Bill Mullin and Julia Weisshaar-Mullin of Creston.

The annual ACDA conference draws choral directors from across the country and from many different backgrounds. Members teach choral music in public and private schools for grades K-12 and at the college level.
