It’s an honor to honor our nation’s veterans

This past month, the youth in Creston were able to experience something that many of today’s youth will never know. They had the pleasure and honor to participate in a fundraislng effort to support a very meaningful trip to Washington, D.C., for some of our country’s veterans.

The project was sponsored by the Creston High School FBLA members and their adviser, Shannon Smith. In just about two months time, they organized and completed this fundraiser and were able to raise more than $7,700 for the Union County honor flight program.

This amount will pay for costs to send 10 Union County veterans on an honor flight May 6 to Washington, D.C. Words cannot express my deep gratitude for their efforts, but I wish to thank the FBLA members, Shannon Smith, all the kids that raised money in the coin wars, sponsors at the wrestling meet, people who purchased T-shirts for the cause, any others who donated to this effort and the Creston Community School Board who endorsed this project.

Thank you, thank you, thank you and thank you to the veterans who sacrificed a portion of their lives in service to their country.
