Most of us in this area of Iowa are living in a far different world than those living in the rest of the state. When we use the calculation tables of justifying salaries in comparison to similar-sized towns in all of Iowa, well ... I’m not so sure we’re using the right approach. Surely there are other ways to arrive at that end? Because of high taxes and not so high wages, it’s a concern and we should tread lightly on all tax-funded salary and other tax related matters.
Upon our return from retirement, again into the book business, these are some of the things we’ve kept on our minds. We have taken a new look at our old pricing schedule with a heavy regard to the economy today and determined that we need to revise our thinking.
As some of you may know already, the Thompson’s, Ed and Anna, have given us a space inside their Dollar Store at 109 N. Maple St., for our bookstore. Due to the influence of the merchandise they offer at low prices, we have revised our schedule to $1 for mass-market (regular) paperbacks and $1 and $2 for oversized books. Trading is allowed at half off regular prices and donations are always welcome. Prepare to be surprised at their selection of merchandise and our selection of books.
