MOUNT AYR — A limited Mount Ayr lineup wrestled well through all eight duals at this weekend’s 29th annual Ron Scott Memorial Dual Tournament.

The Raiders won one of their eight duals, downing Durant 38-12.

Injuries have taken a significant toll on coach John Ford’s squad. By the time the tournament finished Saturday afternoon, the Raiders had only six healthy varsity wrestlers.

“We’ve got hit by the injury bug,” Ford said.

The Raiders lost two starters on Friday. Heavyweight Josh Cox went down with a foot injury that could cost him the season. Cal Daughton went down with a sprained ankle that’s likely to keep him out at least a week.

Mount Ayr’s healthy six wrestlers still competed well.

“We’ve got some good things to take away, except the injuries,” Ford said. “The kids fought hard. I’m happy with our performances.”

Lathrop (Mo.) won the tournament going 8-0 over the two days. Harlan was second, going 7-1. Shenandoah was third, going 6-2.

“The competition here has been awesome,” Ford said.

For Mount Ayr, most of the teams at the Ron Scott Duals were ones the Raiders don’t normally see.

“The competition has been awesome,” Ford said.
