Four Panthers victorious Saturday

Team claims title at Centerville

CENTERVILLE — Creston/Orient-Macksburg crowned four champions leading to a strong showing at the Centerville Big Red Tournament Saturday.

The Panther wrestlers picked up wins from Jacob Goodson (113), Trevor Marlin (138), Chase Shiltz (182) and Kadon Hulett (220) in winning the tournament.

“We had some good matches as a whole,” said Creston/Orient-Macksburg coach Darrell Frain.

Shiltz won the tournament for the fourth straight year. He was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler of the 14-team tournament.

Both Shiltz and Hulett won all of their matches by pin.

“Chase and Kadon dominated all the way through,” Frain said.

Marlin won a pair of exciting matches to claim the title at 138.

Goodson handily won all of his matches at 113.

“Jacob Goodson controlled everything,” Frain said.

Goodson, Marlin, Shiltz and Hulett looked sharp all day.

“All four champions wrestled well,” Frain said. “That’s what we need.”

Jackson Mikkelsen was third at 195.

“Jackson Mikkelsen’s bracket was loaded,” Frain said.

Cody Tanner was fourth at 285 after a close loss in the semifinal.

Tanner was finally back on the mat after an extended absence.

All 14 wrestlers scored points.

“We wrestled well as a whole,” Frain said. “Everybody scored points. That’s the best part.”

Creston/Orient-Macksburg won with 248.5 points. Iowa City High was second with 217 points.

“Iowa City High was right there with us, so that was a good win for us,” Frain said.

Three Missouri schools that were scheduled to come — Kirksville, St. Joseph Benton and Lee’s Summit West — could not come up because of inclement winter weather in Missouri.

UP NEXT — Creston/Orient-Macksburg is on the mat Thursday at Shenandoah, with Denison-Schleswig in Hawkeye 10 Conference dual meet action.
