Creston United Methodist Women

The executive committee of Creston United Methodist Women met Thursday, Nov. 3. Co-president Sandy McNichols called the meeting to order with nine officers and special events chairman present. Joys and concerns were shared.

Beth Perry had the devotions from Response Magazine stating the UMW was organized in 1869, and followed with a prayer.

Minutes of the October meeting were read and corrected and the treasurer’s report was given.

Included in the treasurer’s report was a report on the October dinner.

Vice-president Ann Driskell noted that the trustees are asking the women to clean the kitchen at their convenience.

At the unit meeting in March, there will be a program on community service. In May there will be a six-hour study on the Bible and sexuality and a program on climate justice in September.

The December unit meeting was to be an evening meeting with a light supper, but due to a conflict with the lighted Christmas parade it will be 2 p.m. Dec. 1.

Morning Circle met Nov. 17 with Colleen Brotherton as hostess assisted by Lois Jay. Judy Kading presided with eight members present. Perry gave the devotions and the program entitled “World Thank Offering.”

Evening Circle met Nov. 19. Rosalie Denton presided with seven members present.

Bobi Woodin presented a Response Magazine moment on climate justice. Denton gave the program entitled “World Thank Offering.”

Upcoming dates to remember are April 25 at Bidwell Riverside and May 11 for Women at the Well.

Mary Circle

Mary Circle of First Christian Church met Nov. 17 at the church. There were eight members present. President Fils called the meeting to order with the disciple women’s prayer.

Joyce read the minutes and Alice gave the treasurer’s report. Both were approved as read.

Old business discussed was the anything sale that will be tabled until later. New business is the Christmas meeting to be held 11:30 a.m. Dec. 15 at A&G.

Alice motioned to adjourned and Ro Emma seconded.

Florence gave the lesson on Peter’s mother-in-law from “Women of the Bible.”

Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting. Next meeting will be in December.

TOPS #IA 1338

TOPS #IA 1338 met 5 p.m. Nov. 14 at Creston First United Methodist Church to weigh-in. At 5:30 p.m., leader Shellie Adams called the meeting to order with nine members present. Best loser was Elaine Weirich and runner up was Carol Sheldahl.

Minutes were read by Weirich and Alice Brown gave the treasurer’s report. Fines from Nov. 7 went to Sheldahl and Brown won squares. The red can challenge for the week is to encourage a fellow member.

Weirich gave the program on chronic illness and weight loss. As many realize, it is easier to work on ourselves with the help of the group.

Beverly Lyon was best loser Nov. 21. Brown and Barb P. tied for runner-up. Adams lead the meeting with eight present and two guests.

Brown gave the treasurer’s report and Weirich read the minutes. Both were approved. Fines for the Nov. 14 went to Sheldahl and Adams won squares. Secret pals will start next week and the “gain yards” contest continues.

Brown gave a program on curbing your hunger and how to power through your day by putting protein to work for you with many idea and recipe handouts. A humorous paper was read on don’t eat dead food as it has no nutrients and makes you feel old.

The weekly red can challenge is to get active when hungry. Next meeting will be Monday, Nov. 28.
