Maxine Beaumont McElroy, 97, of Creston died Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at Creston Specialty Care in Creston.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at First United Methodist Church in Creston. The Rev. Jodi Rushing will officiate. Private family burial will be in Graceland Cemetery south of Creston. Open memorial visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to Creston First United Methodist Church or Care Initiative Hospice. Frances Maxine Snyder Beaumont McElroy, daughter of William Allen Snyder and Ida May (DeVoe), was born Sept. 2, 1919, in Union County. Maxine was educated in Spaulding No. 6 Country School, finishing at Creston Senior High and graduating in 1936.

On Nov. 24, 1938, she married Thomas Beaumont. Thomas later died Jan. 14, 1952, in an automobile accident. Maxine was co-owner and operator of Creston Cleaners for several years. She worked as a clerk at the Union County Auditor’s office, then at Agricultural Stabilization Service and Union County Treasurer’s office, retiring in September 1984.

On June 22, 1985, Maxine married Kenneth E. McElroy at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston.

Maxine was a member of First United Methodist Church in Spaulding and then in Creston; member of Greater Regional Hospice Guild and Hospital Auxiliary; a 50-plus year member of Order of the Eastern Star and active volunteer.

Maxine is survived by her sons, Terry (Carol) Beaumont of Sioux City and Greg (Susan) Beaumont of West Des Moines; step-daughters, Margaret (Mike) McDavitt of Lake Stevens, Washington, and Mary Tackett of St. Peters, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; niece Cheri (Jack) Davis of Creston and several other nieces and nephews.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Thomas Beaumont; second husband, Kenneth E. McElroy; sisters, May Custer, Mabel Christiansen and Ruth Jones; brother Don Snyder; step-mother Martha McElroy and step-son-in-law Robert Tackett.
