David Rissler, 85, of Creston died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016, at Northridge Village in Ames.
Celebration of life memorial services will be 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at Crestmoor Country Club in Creston. The Rev. Mary O'Riley will officiate. Open visitation with family present will be from 3 p.m. until the start of the service at 4 p.m. at Crestmoor Country Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to First United Congregational Church in Creston or Creston Community Schools instrumental music program. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.
David Donovan Rissler, son of William E. “Shake” Rissler and Bondene Rissler, was born Sept. 1, 1931, in Seymour. Dave graduated from Seymour High School in 1948 and continued his education at Kirksville State Teacher’s College, currently known as Truman State University. He graduated with his Bachelor’s in music education in 1951.
On Sept. 16, 1951, Dave married N. Kathryn Doughty in Jamesport, Missouri. Dave taught music in Milan, Missouri, for two years before moving to Creston, where he taught instrumental music for 40 years. He was also a golf coach for 20 years in Creston.
Dave was a member of First United Congregational Church; Elks, for which he once served as exalted ruler; and Crestmoor Golf and Country Club, where he served a term on the board of directors. Dave was also the director of Summer Municipal Band and co-director and director of the Creston Chorus as well as choirs at the Methodist and Congregational churches in Creston.
Dave is survived by his wife of 65 years, Kathryn; daughters, Melodie (Rick) Chitty of Greene and Heather (Gary) Botine of Ames; grandchildren, Phillip (Robin) Duple of Colombia, Missouri, Meagan Wrecsics of Greene, Anna (Dan) Acheson of Ankeny, Claire (Brian) Marsh of Waukee, Spencer Botine of Denver, Colorado, and Sadie Botine of West Des Moines; five great-grandchildren; along with many extended relatives and a host of friends.
Dave was preceded in death by his mother and father.
