Dorothy Roeder Creston

Dorothy Roeder, 98, of Creston died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, at Creston Specialty Care in Creston.

Mass of Christian burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. The Rev. Kenneth Halbur will serve as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church prior to the service with family present from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Memorials may be directed to St. Malachy School or Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Dorothy Rosa Lee Roeder, daughter of Albert B. and Florence (Owen) Berry, was born Sept. 7, 1918, in Killduff. Dorothy graduated from Sully High School with the class of 1936 and attended Simpson College for two years. Before marriage, Dorothy was employed in the offices of Denniston and Partridge Company in Newton, as well as Maytag Company.

On Jan. 31, 1948, Dorothy married James E. Roeder in Greenfield. Following her marriage, Dorothy was a homemaker. The couple lived in Creston until 1956, Fort Dodge until 1957, Spencer until 1963, Shenandoah until 1975 and Villisca from 1975 to 1998, when they returned to Creston.

Dorothy attended Holy Spirit Catholic Church and was a member of the Holy Spirit Council of Catholic Women.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Jim Roeder of Creston; daughters, Diana Roeder (David Silk) of Rosemount, Minnesota, and Cynthia (Arthur) Wohlers of Bisbee, Arizona; sister Elleen (Roy) Wicker of Hawley, Minnesota; sister-in-law Ann Hawks of Mt. Pleasant; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; sister Alberta Larson; brother Jesse Berry and brothers-in-law, Ray Larson and John Hawks.
