Panthers and Timberwolves convincing winners Friday

Creston/Orient-Macksburg 48, Winterset 7.

WINTERSET — A bit more banged up than they might like to be, the Creston/Orient-Macksburg Panthers (6-0, 4-0) still came away with an emphatic 48-7 road win over rival Winterset (1-5, 1-3) on Friday.

The Huskies came out hitting a little harder and flying to the football perhaps a bit more than the Panthers had become accustomed to over the past few weeks. It showed a few times when the Panthers had to mount drives rather than score in lightning-quick fashion.

Chase Shiltz scored three touchdowns, Kylan Smallwood scored two, while Zach Carlson and Rylan Luther each notched one score each.

The Panthers went up 21-0 at the half and were held up inside the five-yard line in the first half's final moments.

Creston/O-M jumped all over the Huskies early in the second half on its way to putting them away for good.

The Panther defense was suffocating for much of the night, and the starters/main reserves did not allow a touchdown for the third straight week. The lone long drive in the first half for Winterset ended when Carlson intercepted a pass in the second quarter.

Shiltz and Smallwood also had interceptions, while Evan Jacobson and Dalten Bierle recovered fumbles.

Several Panthers were dinged up tonight. Brody Frain, Mitchel Swank and Cody Crawford were among those pulled from action due to injury.

GREENFIELD — Chance Cobb had three rushing touchdowns and passed for another to Grant Mauer as Southwest Valley improved to 4-2 with a 59-24 victory over Nodaway Valley (1-5, 1-3) Friday night.

The Timberwolves host unbeaten Council Bluffs St. Albert next week. Nodaway Valley plays at Southeast Warren next Friday.

Jace Petersen ran for two touchdowns for Southwest Valley, which established a 38-12 halftime lead. Aiden Gaule and Jerad Shires also had one rushing touchdown each. The Timberwolves also scored twice on safeties.

Cobb finished with 157 yards rushing and 73 yards passing. He directed a 13-play, 90-yard scoring drive in the third quarter that ended on his 1-yard run up the middle to make it a 45-12 game.

Spencer Lamb had two touchdown passes to Jared Corder and Trevor Flettre for Nodaway Valley. Lamb also scored on a quarterback sneak and Josh Allsup added a touchdown run.
