O-M volleyball earns first two wins of season

Over the last week, Orient-Macksburg’s volleyball team picked up its first two wins of the season.

The Bulldogs took down Moulton-Udell Tuesday, Sept. 20 by scores of 21-20, 20-22 and 15-9.

O-M grabbed another win on Tuesday when it defeated Melcher-Dallas 3-1.

Diagonal netters drop pair

The Diagonal Maroons volleyball team fell twice in a triangular on Tuesday, falling 2-0 to Grand View Christian, 25-12 and 25-13, and 2-1 to Moravia, 23-25, 25-20 and 15-8.

“It was good to see some playing time against a team like that,” Diagonal coach Mallory Grandfield said.

Grandfield noted that she was happy to give some reserves playing time in the Triangular in Humeston, and that Emily Newton and Katie Sabotka played well for the Maroons.

Timberwolves take down Eagles

Southwest Valley grabbed a 3-1 win Tuesday over East Union in Pride of Iowa Conference volleyball.

The Timberwolves lost the first set 25-22, and proceeded to win the next three by scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-20.

Morgan Shuey put in a strong performance with 10 kills as the Timberwolves totalled 39.

Alaina Currin had 19 assists for the Timberwolves.

Mara Weis, Alissa Weinkoetz and Olivia Eckels combined for 27 kills for the Eagles. Megan Mitchell set up her hitters with 28 assists.

Weis, Eckels, Megan Mitchell and Callie Gossman all tallied 14 digs.
