Accidents

No citations were issued after an accident 11:37 a.m. Sept. 9 on West Adams Street.

According to a Creston Police report, Roberta Arlene Sobotka, 80, of Diagonal, driving a 2011 Ford east on West Adams Street, pulled up to the intersection of West Adams and North Elm streets, proceeded before the intersection was clear and struck a 2004 Acura driven south on North Elm Street by Brittany Ann Taylor, 21, of Creston, who panicked and backed up after the collision, hitting a 2006 Chevrolet driven south on North Elm Street by Amie Jo Jackson, 35, of Creston.

Sobotka admitted to fault of the accident and was verbally warned for failure to yield the right of way.

Damage estimates are $1,500 to Sobotka’s vehicle, $3,500 to Taylor’s vehicle and no damage to Jackson’s vehicle.

No citations were issued after an accident 6:11 p.m. Sept. 16 at Wal-Mart.

According to a Creston Police report, Samantha Faye Williams, 18, of Creston, driving a 2005 Chevrolet, was parked in the parking lot of Wal-Mart, 806 Laurel St., was backing up, said she looked but there was a glare because of the sun, continued to slowly back up and backed into a 2008 Cadillac driven south in the parking lot by Dianne Lynn White, 60, of Lenox.

Damage estimates are $1,000 to Williams’ vehicle and $1,500 to White’s vehicle.

Alyson Lee Lamastres, 24, of Murray was cited for failure to stop in an assured clear distance after an accident 5:19 p.m. Sept. 19 on Highway 34.

According to a Union County Sheriff report, Lamastres, driving a 2010 Ford east on Highway 34, did not see the brake lights of a 2005 Chrysler driven east on Highway 34 by David Paul Jones, 65, of Osceola, because of a glare from the sun and struck Jones’ vehicle, causing damage to both. A non-contact vehicle was also traveling east on Highway 34 in front of Lamastres and Jones and began slowing, waiting for oncoming traffic to pass to turn left into a driveway in the 2900 block of Highway 34. Jones was slowing behind the non-contact vehicle.

Damage estimates are $3,000 to Jones’ vehicle and $9,000 to Lamastres’ vehicle.

No citations were issued after an accident 7:20 a.m. Monday on Highway 34.

According to a Union County Sheriff report, Randall I. Christo, 62, of Ashland, Nebraska, driving a 2014 Ford east on Highway 34, did not see a 1999 Caterpillar grader driven east on Highway 34 by Robert Dale Hepp, 57, of Cromwell because of a glare from the sun and struck the left rear tire of the grader. When Christo hit the grader, his vehicle went airborne and landed on its side.

Christo, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported by ground ambulance to Greater Regional Medical Center, where his condition is unknown at this time.

Damage estimates are $10,000 to Christo’s vehicle and $1,200 to Hepp’s vehicle, which is owned by Union County.

No citations were issued after an accident 3:57 p.m. Monday at the intersection of New York Avenue and South Sumner Avenue.

According to a Creston Police report, Zachery Allen Chumbley, 23, of Creston, Driving a 2014 Smart vehicle south on South Sumner Avenue behind a 2007 Jeep driven by Jeannittie Elizabeth Todd, 59, of Maloy, who had a vehicle stopped in front of her waiting to turn into a driveway and stopped in her lane, when Chumbley looked down at something inside his vehicle for a moment and when he looked up he realized Todd’s vehicle was not moving, hit his brakes and tried to swerve to the right to avoid a collision but did not have enough time to stop or avoid the collision and hit Todd’s vehicle.

Damage estimates are $1,000 to Chumbley’s vehicle and $1,000 to Todd’s vehicle.
