DES MOINES – Participants from across the state brought their ribbon-worthy creations to the “Create a Winner with Gurley’s Nuts” competition judged Aug. 18 at the Iowa State Fair. Judy Kiburz-Harrison of Tingley placed third in breads and rolls.

Judges had their plates full with entries in the “Machine Shed and Gold Medal Flour” pies competition judged Aug. 21 at the state fair. Cynthia Wolf of Creston placed third in blueberry and second in two-crust cream other than named.

Mikaela Downing of Union County exhibited the grand champion commercial gilt in the 4-H breeding swine show judged Aug. 22 at the state fair. Katelyn Foglesong of Union County received reserve champion Hampshire gilt.
