ISU Theatre’s season has something for everyone

AMES – Iowa State University (ISU) Theatre’s 2016-17 season will have something for everyone and includes a contemporary work, two musicals, a comedy, a Shakespeare classic and a drama. The season is designed to appeal to ISU students as well as adults.

This year’s titles are:

“Mr. Burns,” a post-electric play – After the power grid fails, survivors take solace in retelling their favorite “Simpsons” episodes. This contemporary play premiered in 2013 off-Broadway.

“Cabaret” – A musical which tells the story of Sally Bowies and a master of ceremonies, who are determined to entertain even while the world may be crumbling around them.

“The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail” – The story of Henry David Thoreau’s overnight stay in jail after refusing to pay his taxes.

“The Importance of Being Earnest” – A trivial comedy for serious people, this satire by Oscar Wilde pokes fun at rules, love, egos and behavior.

“Little Women” – A musical which follows four sisters as they grow from childhood to adulthood based on the novel of the same title by Louisa May Alcott.

“The Tempest” – Shakespeare’s last play; a fantastical tale of deception revenge and redemption; features ISU Theatre’s Professor Jane Cox as Prospera.
