Area youth compete in state pedal pull championship

The Iowa State Pedal Pull Association held its 27th-Annual State Pedal Pull Championship Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Coliseum in Marshalltown hosted by Marshalltown Noon Optimists club. More than 9,000 girls and boys participated in more than 200 sanctioned pedal pulls across Iowa.

The first, second, and third-place winners at state level are eligible to compete Saturday at the national pedal pull at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota.

Brock Jones, son of David and Mindy Jones of Shannon City, competed in the 8-year-old boy division. He won first place with a pull of 35.1 feet. This was his third win at state.

Kinzey Ripperger, daughter of Daniel Ripperger and Alison Tracy of Lorimor, competed in the 9-year-old girl division. She won first place by being the only 9-year-old girl pulling through the course.

Sophia Chafa of Greenfield placed first in the 11-year-old girls, Raelyn Schwarze of Greenfield placed first in the 12-year-olds and Addison Harrison of Bedford placed third in the 5-year-old category. Also in competition was the 9-year-old son of Jesse and Valerie White of Creston.
