4-H records due Sept. 30 in Adair County

GREENFIELD – Record-keeping is one of the experiences unique to the 4-H program.

Throughout the year, members are encouraged to set goals and record their progress using 4-H record forms. 4-H records also allow youth to keep track of their accomplishments in the areas of leadership, citizenship and communication.

There are many reasons to keep a record book. Records as a source of memories often come to the top of the list when 4-H alumni reflect on their record-keeping experiences. They’re also quick to point out the value of learning the discipline of record-keeping that has allowed them to feel at ease in maintaining everything from financial to personal records as adults.

A solid record book also provides much of the information needed by youth when they prepare to apply for college scholarships and jobs. In addition, the members look forward to the recognition that comes with completing a record book. Adair County 4-H’ers completing record books are eligible for special cash awards and honors. 4-H’ers are encouraged to contact Adair County Extension Office with questions or for advice in completing their record book.

All record books are due by 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at Adair County Extension office.

4-H’ers can also earn recognition for volunteer service by submitting community service logs by Sept. 30. The log must include the type of community service activity, dates of service and hours volunteered.

All youth completing records will be recognized at the annual 4-H awards event planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at Warren Cultural Center in Greenfield.

4-H enrollments and re-enrollments are being accepted now. Youth planning to join 4-H this year are encouraged to attend the new member and parent meeting scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the 4-H/FFA Center on the Adair County Fairgrounds. This meeting is for new members and their parents, as well as current members and parents (first or second year). The event will involve shopping in our 4-H stores. Shop for information on 4-H enrollment (4honline), hands-on activities, record keeping, fun and refreshments.
