arents of toddler who shot himself given probation

DUBUQUE (AP) — The parents of a Dubuque toddler who shot himself in the face have each been sentenced to five years of probation.

The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports 26-year-old Raven Harris and 30-year-old Willie Horsley Sr. were sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Iowa. Each had pleaded guilty to being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.

Police say the little boy, Jeremiah Horsley, was playing with the .45-caliber handgun Jan. 3 when it went off. He was flown to an Iowa City hospital for treatment.

Harris and Horsley still faces several state charges related to the shooting. Harris’ trial is set for Sept. 20, while Horsley’s trial is set for Oct. 31.
