Area volleyball roundup

Eagles breeze past Pleasantville

East Union made the trip to Pleasantville on Tuesday and left with a quick three set sweep. The Eagles won by scores of 25-15, 25-8 and 25-16.

Mara Weis and Lauren Mitchell combined to go 37-of-38 on serves. Weis and Alissa Weinkoetz led the way with 10 and seven kills respectively.

Rylee Mitchell led the Eagles with 26 assists. Olivia Eckels and Weis paced the Eagles in digs with 23 and 14 respectively.

East Union was an impressive 36-of-37 in receiving serves.

Lenox handed two losses

Lenox lost two matches Tuesday, both in two sets at Winterset.

The Tigers’ foes were Interstate 35 and Winterset.

The Tigers fell to the roadrunners by scores of 18-25 and 22-25. They fell to Winterset by scores of 23-25 and 17-25.

The Tigers managed only nine assists in the Winterset matchup.

Brooke Miller led the way with 16 total digs over the two matches. Hannah Davis notched nine total kills.

Katelyn Belding posted 12 assists against Interstate 35.

Jacy Stoaks totaled five solo blocks, including four in the Winterset match.

Wolverines come from behind

Nodaway Valley picked up its first victory this season with a five-set victory over visiting Martensdale St. Marys in the Wolverines’ home-opener.

Sadie Marnin tallied 13 aces and went 29-of-30 serves. She also tallied six kills and six digs.

Nodaway Valley went 100-of-112 on the night in serves for a .893 serving efficiency.

Josie Clarke went 14-of-14 on serves and knocked home eight kills.

Bailey Wiggins led the Wolverines with 13 assists.

In the digs category, Paige McElfish had nine, Marnin had six, and Allyson Phillippi had five.

Timberwolves fall in four to CD

Southwest Valley won a tightly-contested second set 26-24 but fell in four sets in its opener at home against Central Decatur Tuesday.

The scores were, by game: 17-25, 26-24, 14-25 and 18-25.

“We struggled offensively tonight because we struggled with serve receive and passing. We didn’t move our feet and passed outside of our hips. Southwest Valley coach Lindsay Wetzel said. “Morgan Shuey had a good night leading the team with eight kills, 100 percemt serving, and lead the team with 10 digs. It was good to get our first match out of the way, it gives us lots to look at and gives us more match specific skills to work on. Hailey Thomas also had a good night with the setting duties, she had 20 assists with only four errors.

Diagonal sweeps opener

The Diagonal Maroons took three straight sets from South Page by scores of 25-22, 25-9 and 25-16 to open the season 1-0.
