WINTERSET — Officers with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant Sunday at 3123 State Highway 92 in Madison County in reference to a livestock neglect investigation.
According to a Madison County Sheriff report, during the investigation, deceased cattle were discovered and the remaining cattle present were found to be in deplorable condition and in need of immediate care. All cattle lacked food, water and proper care as confirmed by a veterinarian. An immediate seizure of all cattle was conducted during the search.
A total of 36 head of cattle were seized and transported to another location to begin receiving care.
The investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are pending.
