Kae M. Johnston, 76, of Creston died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016, at Greater Regional Hospice Home – HCI in Creston.

Celebration of life services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, at Crest Baptist Church, 1211 N. Poplar St., in Creston. The Rev. Chuck Spindler will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, south of Creston. Open visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday with family present from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston. Kae Marlene Johnston, daughter of Roman and Mary Bjorgo, and raised by grandparents, David E. and Rosa M. Anderson, was born June 22, 1940, in Iowa City. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1957. She went on to study at Mason City Business College. Kae then worked as a stenographer with the State of Iowa auditor’s office.

On Aug. 7, 1962, Kae married Max Johnston in Des Moines. They first lived in the Des Moines area. In 1964, they moved to Bedford, and then to rural Williamson in 1966, where together they farmed and operated Johnston Metals. Kae was a homemaker, active farmwife and bookkeeper for their businesses. Kae also worked for the Iowa State Extension Service in Greenfield. They farmed from 1964 to 1981. Kae earned her credentials to work as a nursing home administrator. They moved to Creston in 1981, where Kae worked as the administrator for Crest Haven Care Centre in Creston.

Kae was a member of Crest Baptist Church in Creston and she taught Sunday school classes over the years.

Kae is survived by her husband Max Johnston of Creston; sons, Michael (Nikki) Johnston of Montrose, Colorado, Kevin (Connie) Johnston of Simpsonville, South Carolina, and Stephen (Suzanne) Johnston of Creston; daughter Cynthia (Chuck) Thomas of New Market and grandchildren, Sophia DeJulio, Dane, Marissa and Emma Johnston, Hannah, Ellie and Paul Johnston, Kirstie and Corbin Thomas.

Kae was preceded in death by her parents, Roman and Mary Bjorgo and sister Marilyn Zimmer.
