Velma King Lorenz, 94, of Creston died Monday, July 25, 2016, at Clearview Home in Clearfield.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 29, at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr with The Rev. John Rutz officiating. Burial is in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr. There is visitation at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday. Memorials are to the Lutheran Women's Mission League. Online condolences my be left at www.watsonarmstrongfh.com.

Velma was born March 1, 1922, to Sylvia Brown Kennedy and Reed Kennedy in Ringgold County.

Velma attended school in Mount Ayr. On January 16, 1941, Velma married Russell King in Creston. The couple had two sons, Kenneth and Alan.

The family lived on a farm near Mount Ayr, and they also ran a milk route to Bethany, Missouri. Velma was also employed at Places and Pamida stores. She was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed life with family and friends.

Velma was baptized into Trinity Lutheran Church in Creston, where she was also a member. Russell died in November 1992. Velma later married Gerald Lorenz.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry; son, Kenneth, and his wife, Jane; son, Alan King; grandchildren, Jeffrey King, Justin King and Lisa, Trisha Warner and Sonny; great grandchild, Nevaeh; step-daughter, Debbie Ribando and John; step-grandchildren, John and Michael Ribando; sister, Irene Hogue; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Jolene King; parents-in-law, Roy and Opal King; brother, Dennis Kennedy, and his wife, Gwen; and brothers-in-law, Lyle Hogue, Glen King and Mary, Dennis King and Pat and John King and Marge.
