Pride of Iowa all-conference softball released

REGIONAL— Pride of Iowa Conference softball players have been honored as the league’s all-conference softball team was released.

In the News-Advertiser coverage area, three players earned first team honors. Nodaway Valley junior pitcher Paige McElfish batted .505 with 50 hits, 13 doubles, 12 home runs and drove in 44. In the pitching circle, McElfish went 16-12 with a 2.59 earned run average in 167 and two-thirds innings of work. She struck out 202 and walked 47.

Lenox junior Shantelle Brown hit .469 wtih 14 doubles and 35 driven in at the Tigers’ catcher.

Lenox senior Beth Christensen was honored as a utlity player. She posted a 17-6 record, a 2.48 E.R.A., and struck out 138 batters. She hit .254 with 29 hits and 14 driven in.

Six others were honored on the second team.

Southwest Valley junior Kiara Roberts went 3-12 in the pitching circle.

Mount Ayr sophomore Alyssa Johnson hit .317 with 12 doubles and 24 driven in. Freshman teammate Caroline McAlexander hit .390 with eight doubles, four home runs and 22 driven in.

Lenox had a pair on the second team. Freshman Brooke Miller hit .286 with 26 hits, 27 runs and 26 runs batted in. Junior Emily Powell hit .390 with eight doubles, two home runs and 36 driven in.

Co-league champion and Class 2A fifth-place finisher Interstate 35 placed six on the first team, including the only two unanimous selections in junior pitcher Carlyn Stanley and junior catcher Shai Major. Other Roadrunners on the first team included junior infielder Slye Richardson, freshman infielder Kate Stanley, freshman outfielder Lily Miller and junior utility player Riley Morris. The Roadrunners had two more on the second team in junior Josie Wickett and freshman Olivia Carlson.

Central Decatur had one on the first team in junior infielder Daryn Nowling and two on the second team in junior Raegan Booth and freshman Emma Atwood

Co-league champion and Class 1A third-place finisher Martensdale-St. Marys had five on the first team and three on the second team. Interstate 35 and Martensdale-St. Marys each went 15-1 in the league.
