Harvey Howard Olson, 80, of Montrose, Colorado, died Saturday, July 23, 2016, at his home in Montrose, with his wife at his side, after three long years battling cancer.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at the Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose with burial in Dwight City Cemetery in Dwight City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to HopeWest Hospice of Montrose at 725 S. Fourth Street, Montrose, Colorado 81401. Arrangements are under the care of Crippin Funeral Home and Crematory.

Harvey was born November 27, 1935, in White City, Kansas, to Howard and Minnie (Wafler) Olson. When Harvey was a kid, he moved to Junction City, Kansas, and graduated from Junction City High School.

Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and worked as a radio operator on Bikini Island. After his time in the Air Force, Harvey returned to Junction City and attended Kansas State University, receiving a degree in civil engineering.

Harvey worked as a district engineer for the state of Iowa for several years in Creston and was promoted to contracts engineer in Ames. Harvey retired in October 1994 and moved to Weslaco, Texas.

After his retirement, he and his wife, Barb, would travel in the RV to cooler areas like Montrose and Canada. Harvey enjoyed hunting pheasant and quail in the Creston area, camping in southern Iowa, playing bridge and poker, gardening, woodworking, camping and loved the Alma Mater Kansas State Wildcats.

Harvey is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barb Olson of Montrose, Colorado; sons, Brian Olson of Austin, Texas, and Bradley (Cindy) Olson of Wake Forest, North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

Harvey is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Alfred Olson.
