Accidents

No citations were issued after an accident 5:16 a.m. July 7 in Adair County.

According to an Iowa State Patrol report, Amit Chahal, 31, of Bakersfield, California, driving a 2015 Volvo tractor-trailer east on Interstate 80, said a trailer began to sway, he lost control because of the rain and the vehicle jack-knifed and rolled onto the passenger side, blocking all lanes of traffic and coming to rest facing north, and because the vehicle was laying on its side, Jeffrey Figgins, 54, of Omaha, Nebraska, driving a 1999 Freightliner tractor-trailer, was unable to see any lights or reflects and struck the undercarriage of the Volvo trailer. Figgins’ vehicle came to rest on the south shoulder.

Figgins was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines by Stuart EMS ground ambulance, where his condition is unknown at this time.

No citations were issued after an accident 11:50 p.m. Friday in Ringgold County.

According to an Iowa State Patrol report, William D. Craig, 67, of Shannon City, driving a 2008 Ford north on 210th Avenue, lost control and entered the east ditch. Craig was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected.

Craig was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines by Life Flight air ambulance, where his condition is unknown.

Upon further investigation, alcohol may be a factor. Results of blood testing are pending.

No citations were issued after an accident 11:23 p.m. Tuesday in Decatur County.

According to an Iowa State Patrol report, Daniel Warlop, 39, of Rockford, Illinois, was walking west on Highway 2 when, for an unknown reason, he fell on the roadway, and while he was on the roadway a 2014 Chevrolet driven west by Michael Edward Sobotka, 39, of Tingley, could not avoid striking him.

Warlop was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines by Mercy One air ambulance, where his condition is unknown at this time.
