Creston softball splits Thursday games, takes seventh in 4A

A split was how Creston softball ended its 2016 season at the state tournament. A Thursday late-afternoon 4-3 win over Bishop Heelan gave the Panthers a seventh place finish in Class 4A.

Creston, who finishes 25-13, lost its first game of the day to Perry by a score of 6-0. The Panthers were overmatched against Perry hurler Emma Olejniczak.

The loss sunk Creston to the seventh place game.

In the last game of the tournament for Creston, the Panthers got on the board early and held on late for the one-run victory over Bishop Heelan, who finished 26-13.

The trip to state was the fifth for the program.
