Lenox Tigers celebrated a victory over Sentral Fenton in the Class 1A State Championship game. The 10-5 win marked the schools’ first-ever state championship. The victory may have sealed Lenox’s 2005-06 athletes’ status as the best in school history. No other class could claim a state title, runner-up finish in football and substate final appearance in basketball – all in the same year.

Wiggles and Wags 4-H club received an unexpected surprise at the Union County Fair. Creston McKinley Lake probably had a first – a floating comfort station. But it wasn’t intentional, and without the usual starred door, was hardly usable. Pranksters evidently went to a lot of work to float the outdoor bathroom out to the float used by water skiers on the southeast side of the lake, since the float was anchored down.

Ad: “35 years ago today ... on July 30, 1931, we started serving food to this community. Five years later, we open the first Chicken Inn. Twenty years ago, the new Chicken Inn was finished after the first had been destroyed by fire. During those many years, we tried to please our customers with delicious foods and bountiful meals. Thousands have express their pleasure and satisfaction with our food at the Inn which we consider second to none. In 1962, we opened the Colonial Room and new lobby entrance. In 1964, the downstairs meeting room was added for organizations and clubs. In April, we converted the north ballroom-dining area into a new cocktail lounge. At that time, the word “Chicken” was dropped because many people thought only chicken was served. Our new neon sign features the new name next to ‘Hiway’ 34. We are grateful for the patronage extended to us the past 35 years and say ‘Thanks’ to everyone.” Harold and Elsa Collins
