Free culinary adventure for kids

ORIENT – Kids, ages 10 to 14, can learn about cooking from a professional chef during the Cooking for Kids culinary class on Monday, July 18, at Henry A. Wallace Country Life Center.

Chef Katie Porter will lead a discussion about the importance of vegetables in a healthy diet. The class will also include preparing a take-home dish to share with the family, garden tour, recipes, handouts and dinner.

Kids must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited to eight pairs of participants. Class begins at 5:30 p.m. and lasts about two hours.

Thanks to funding from the Greater Greenfield Community Foundation, there is no charge to attend the class. Reservations can be made by phone at 641-337-5019. The Country Life Center is located at 2773 290th St. near Orient.

The Wallace Centers of Iowa's two locations include the Henry A. Wallace Country Life Center in rural Orient and the Wallace House in Des Moines. Together, the two historic sites provide educational programs and community services, produce sustainably grown fruits and vegetables and offer locally sourced meals.
