Ronald McDonald House names TLC grant recipient

DES MOINES – The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Iowa (RMHC) has announced funding recipients for this year’s grant program. The Learning Center of Southwest Iowa located in Creston has received $3,200 for the curriculum expansion for the Behavioral Health Intervention Services program.

Every year, RMHC of Central Iowa distributes more than $20,000 in grants to central Iowa 501(c)(3) children’s charities. The goal of the RMHC of Central Iowa Grant Program is to find and support programs that directly improve the health and wellbeing of children in central Iowa.

“We not only try to improve the health and well-being of children directly through our core programs, but we also work with non-profit organizations throughout central Iowa that are making an immediate, positive impact on children who need it most,” said Brenda Miller, executive director of RMHC. “Grants to these organizations extend the reach and impact of RMHC of Central Iowa and move donation dollars quickly through local charities in their time of need.”

RMHC, a nonprofit corporation, provides and supports programs that directly improve the health and well being of children. The core services are the Ronald McDonald House in downtown Des Moines and the Ronald McDonald Family Room located inside Des Moines’ Mercy Hospital. These facilities provide a “home away from home” for families of seriously ill children receiving treatment in area hospitals. Each year, RMHC provides lodging and meals to more than 700 families from 73 counties throughout central Iowa. Families can stay at no cost for as long as their need exists. All RMHC-supported programs provide access to quality health care and give children and families the time they need together to heal faster and cope better.
