Adair County Medical Clinic annouces Fontanelle closing

GREENFIELD – After careful deliberation and consideration of all options, the board of trustees of Adair County Health System has made the difficult decision to cease the clinic operations in Fontanelle effective June 1.

While those at the Fontanelle clinic value its patients who continue to utilize the Fontanelle clinic, it has been decided that as a tax supported hospital, there is a fiduciary responsibility to the taxpayers of Adair County to be as efficient with its limited resources as possible.

In this case, the volume of visits in the Fontanelle clinic just did not support taking a medical staff provider there, even on a part-time basis. That, coupled with the close proximity to the Greenfield clinic, led to the conclusion that the Fontanelle clinic needed to be closed.

For those who might have transportation challenges, Southern Iowa Trolley is available to transport to Greenfield for a small fee Monday through Friday.

Letters have been sent to patients. Since the patient records are now electronic, they will remain in the electronic health record system at Adair County Health System. In the event that a patient desires a copy of their record be forwarded to another provider or themselves, the hospital will accommodate that as well.

The goal is to continue to provide quality care to Adair County residents. The Adair County Medical Clinic in Greenfield and Stuart will continue to operate on a full-time basis.
