Marvin Kessler, 60, of Creston died Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Southern Hills Specialty Clinic in Osceola.

Celebration of life services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 27, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston. Mary O'Riley will officiate. Interment will be private. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Marvin Ernest Kessler, son of William Ernest Kessler and Doris Marie (Duben) Kessler, was born June 21, 1955, in Creston. Marvin graduated from Creston High School.

Early on, Marvin worked for Creston Co-op operating a sprayer.

Marvin married Kay Lund, and together, they had a son, Jamie. They later divorced.

On Feb. 13, 1982, Marvin married Sharon Creveling-Clark in Creston. They settled in Creston, later moving to their farm northwest of Creston. He worked for Wick Buildings building pole barns. He worked as a farm hand with Ralph Gordon, then with Fred Garvis, working a hog confinement at Nevinville. Next, Marvin worked 23 years with Wayne Wuebker as a farmhand. He then worked with Iowa Select for eight years, retiring in 2012.

Marvin was a member of Union County Pork Producers, Union County Fair Board and a former member of Creston Elk’s Lodge No. 605.

Marvin is survived by his wife Sharon Kessler of Creston; parents, William and Doris Kessler of Creston; sons, David (Brooke) Clark of Grand Junction, Colorado, Jamie (Emily) Kessler of Winterset and Josh (Amy) Kessler of Afton; daughter, Melissa Clark (Merel Witt) of Creston; grandchildren, Alyssa and Ashlyn Clark, Mariah and Dakota Clark, Collin and Madison Kessler and Kyson Kessler; brother-in-law Alan Smisek of Creston and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Marvin was preceded in death by his grandparents and sister Marlene Kessler-Smisek.
