Rita Brzozowski Creston

Rita Brzozowski, 86, of Creston died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Celebration of life services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Crest Baptist Church, 1211 N. Poplar St., in Creston. The Rev. Charles Spindler will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, west of Creston. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston. Rita S. (Holm) Brzozowski, daughter of Theodore Holm and Hulda (Johanson) Holm, was born Dec. 11, 1929, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She graduated from Bassick High School in Bridgeport in 1948. She also studied at Booth and Bayliss Business School in Bridgeport.

On July 14, 1951, Rita married Wesley A. Brzozowski in Bridgeport, Connecticut. They first lived and worked in Bridgeport. In 1960, they moved and worked in Huntington, Connecticut, until moving to Lansdale, Pennsylvania, in 1969. Next they lived and worked briefly in Bay City, Michigan, before moving to Creston in 1972. Rita was a homemaker and housewife.

Rita attended Crest Baptist Church and Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. She was involved in bridge clubs over the years and was an active member of Southern Prairie YMCA in Creston.

Rita is survived by her husband Wesley of Creston; sons, Wesley (wife Sue Haddad) Brzozowski of Johnson City, New York, and Gary (Margery) Brzozowski of Sierra Vista, Arizona; grandchildren, David, Sara, Abigail, Rachel and Diane Brzozowski and Holly Murphy; and great-granddaughter Harper Brzozowski.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law John Brzozowski.
