The Creston/O-M bowling teams split their matches with Clarke here Tuesday, with the girls posting a 288-pin victory and the boys falling by 165 pins.

The Panther girls team put together a solid outing in the final home appearance of the season, as the top three bowlers all bowled 339 or better.

Senior Madison Hance led the way with games of 213 and 191 for a high two-game series of 404. She edged out Clarke’s LeeAnn Helgevold for the high series of the day on the girls side. Helgevold bowled games of 199 and 194 for a 393 series.

Fellow Panther senior Charley Parcher bowled games of 170 and 179 for a 349 series, while Casey Batten posted games of 167 and 172 for a 339 series. Livi Hartman (288) and Emily Stults (226) rounded out the team scoring for the Panthers, who led Clarke by 194 pins after the first round.

“Our spare percentage was up and therefore the scores were also,” Creston/O-M head coach Ron Pendegraft said. “Our score of 1606 was high for us in a round one so far this year.”

Creston/O-M expanded on its lead in the Baker Rotation, thanks in large part to a 201 second-game and a 183 third-game.

The Panthers won the girls match, 2430-2142.

On the boys side, senior Blake Eddy had one of his best performances of the season with games of 246 and 214 for a two-game series of 460. Only one other bowler came within 100 pins of Eddy’s score, as Clarke’s Martin Zaragoza finished with a two-game score of 366, 94 pins back.

But the Indians posted a 2452-2287 victory over the Panthers, thanks in large part to four of five scoring bowlers eclipsing the 300-mark with their two-game series.

Eddy was the only Panther to eclipse the 300-mark, although sophomore Evan Taylor came close with his 295 series after games of 150 and 145. Dylan Linch bowled a 285 series, while Reece Kramer (278) and Zac Hague (271) rounded out the team scoring.

“I am very pleased to see Casey and Evan do as well as they did,” Pendegraft said. “They have both been working very hard, as all the kids have, and to see that work paying off really adds an extra punch in the lineup that we really need.”

Clarke was able to extend its lead in the Baker Rotation.

Creston/O-M hits the lanes again Friday at Thunderbowl in Council Bluffs for the Hawkeye 10 Conference Tournament, before traveling to Premier Lanes in Pleasant Hill on Tuesday for a Class 1A State Qualifying Meet.

“I believe the kids are ready and I expect them to be very competitive,” Pendegraft said. “Our conference is very tough this year for both boys and girls teams, so I expect a very close finish for the top spots in both team and individual competition.”
