Adair County Sheriff

Mark Elmer Steil, 51, of Bridgewater was charged with driving while barred, interference with official acts and on a Polk County warrant 10 a.m. Jan. 25 in Adair County.

According to an Adair County Sheriff report, officers observed Steil operating a vehicle on Main Street in Bridgewater. Officers knew Steil to not have a valid operating license and to have active warrants for his arrest.

While attempting to charge Steil, he actively resisted and use of force was required by officers. Steil physically refused to be charged by hitting away the hands of officers while they attempted to gain control of Steil to place him in handcuffs. Steil continued to be partially inside the vehicle. Officers then drew their Taser and ordered Steil out of the vehicle and onto the ground. Steil continued to refuse lawful orders, then clenched his fists toward officers. Officers deployed the Taser and Steil went back into the vehicle and attempted to put the vehicle into gear. Officers were able to gain control of Steil by use of the Taser and dragging Steil to the ground.

Steil was released on his own recognizance and transported to Polk County.
