4-H design boot camp planned in Greenfield

GREENFIELD – Design Boot Camp Plus is scheduled for 4-H’ers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at the 4-H/FFA Center on the Adair County fairgrounds in Greenfield.

Boot camp will begin with presentation and hands-on activities by Sue Bogue, retired Iowa 4-H program specialist. Sue will cover the elements and principles of design in a basic manner for 4-H’ers to understand. Participants are asked to bring a clothing, visual arts or home improvement project (completed or in progress) to help them determine its elements of design.

Karen Schulteis, county fair clothing event committee member and county fair judge, will follow with “What the Judge is Looking For.” Participants will learn how to be prepared for conference judging of their finished project.

Claire Hall, county and state fair visual arts judge, and Jane Hayes-Johnk, regional 4-H program specialist, will round out the camp with Copyright 101, explaining the “do’s,” “don’ts” and the “must haves,” when completing their 4-H exhibit. Mid-morning snacks will be provided. There is no charge to attend boot camp, but pre-registration is requested. Call the extension office at 641-743-8412 or email wallaced@iastate.edu by Feb. 12 to register.
