Andy Jensen Fontanelle

Andy Jensen, 79, of Fontanelle died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, at Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle with burial in Fontanelle Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by the Fontanelle American Legion Carlson Post No. 247. The Rev. Steven Broers, the Rev. Fred Bryson and the Rev. Lauri Greenlee will officiate the service. A luncheon will be held at the church following the burial. Open visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 28, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle. Andy Lee Jensen, son of George C. and Mary Elizabeth (Chapman) Jensen, was born April 5, 1936, at their home south of Fontanelle. Andy grew up farming with horses and attended Summerset Country School and graduated from Fontanelle High School with the class of 1954. Following graduation, he helped August (Gus) Gross and George Gross as a farm hand. Andy served his country in the Army Reserves in active duty from September 1957 to March 1958 along with his friends Fritz Langguth, Russell Lundy and Gary Welsch. He ended his military service in 1962.

On Dec. 31, 1958, he married Wilma Ione Ford. Andy grew up attending Pleasant Grove Church south of Fontanelle. Later he joined Bridgewater United Methodist Church, where he served on several church committees. He later attended Carl Methodist Church. Andy served on several local boards with Fontanelle Farmers Coop, SIRWA with the start up committee and Adair County Farm Bureau. He also was a 4-H leader. Andy worked at the Clure Lumber Yard in Greenfield before he began farming on his own in the spring of 1959. They moved to the home place south of Fontanelle in the spring of 1971. He milked cows, raised pigs and cattle.

Andy is survived by his wife Ione Jensen; children, LeRoy (Lisa) Jensen of Lenox, Roger (Tammy) Jensen of Fontanelle, Donna (Richard) Erbes of Fontanelle and George (Sarah) Jensen of Bridgewater; 11 grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; mother Elizabeth Jensen of Fontanelle; brothers, Bruce Jensen of Bridgewater and Keith (Barbara) Jensen of Cary, North Carolina; sister June (Ben) Paxton of Greenfield; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Andy was preceded in death by his father; mother and father-in-law Otis and Wilma Ford and sisters-in-law, Cheryl Jensen and Jane Jensen.
