Two Mount Ayr Raiderettes received all-state volleyball honors from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
The all-state volleyball teams were released last week.
Junior middle hitter Kelcie Shields led the Pride of Iowa Conference in kills and was a major force at the net for Mount Ayr’s conference championship team that reached the regional semifinals in Class 1A, where the Raiderettes lost to Stanton.
Shields earned third-team all-state honors in Class 1A. Junior teammate Blair Glendenning was one of the state’s leaders in digs from her libero position and received honorable mention in Class 1A.
Glendenning served as the team’s on-court cheerleader, constantly keeping the team engaged and celebrating every point.
Shields and Glendenning form the nucleus of a Raiderette team that returns all but one varsity regular for next year.
Also announced last week were the IGCA all-district teams.
Shields and Glendenning were joined by sophomore teammate Alyssa Johnson on the Class 1A South Central all-district team, while head coach Tori Braby was named the district’s coach of the year.
